Are you navigating a chronic illness with GLP-1 medications while working to protect your eating disorder recovery? It’s cliché but true: you are not alone.
As these medications become more and more commonly prescribed, many people in recovery struggle with feeling like they need to keep their experience private out of concern for triggering others or seeming contradictory in their choices. As body autonomy affirming therapists, we want to create a confidential, judgment-free space where you can share vulnerably and openly, and get the support you deserve from others navigating similar experiences and feelings.
This group is for individuals prescribed GLP-1 medications for medical conditions like diabetes, PCOS, and other health needs (without any mention of or focus on the term ob**ity). Grounded in Health at Every Size (HAES) and a body liberation approach, this group is a shame and judgment free space where your recovery and overall health picture is prioritized and validated. There’s no talk of weight, numbers, or metrics here to best avoid triggering language. Instead, we will explore effective coping strategies to navigate ED triggers that can come with GLP-1 medications, like appetite suppression, food aversions, digestive issues, and body image concerns. We’ll also offer practical tools to help you stay grounded in body liberation, make peace with food, and care for yourself while managing these side effects.
It can be so complicated to navigate medical treatment while protecting your recovery, and this space is here to support you through it.
