FAQ

  • We offer individual, couples, and group support. Our practice as a whole is eclectic—every therapist at EBT brings their own niche specialties and unique blend of training, passion, and lived experience. Some of us lean more heavily into modalities like IFS or EMDR, while others may focus on somatic, relational, or behavioral approaches. To learn more about each therapist’s style and expertise, check out our Meet the Team page here

Lauren also provides highly individualized clinical consultation to help you grow as a clinician, strengthen your skills, and build a personal or group practice that feels both sustainable and fulfilling.

  • Everything you need to get started can be found here. Just fill out the requested information and our administrative team will get back to you within two business days with next steps.

  • Yes! You can schedule a free phone consultation with one of our therapists — or multiple! — to ensure the best match possible.

  • Of course—and you can change your mind! We understand that you may not vibe or work well with one therapist, but may connect deeply with another. That’s why you’re able to sign up for free 15-minute consultations with any of our therapists to see who’s the best fit for you.

  • We are not in network with any insurance provider at this time. However, we do provide two options to check your out-of-network benefits in case your insurance company offers out-of-network resources.

Option #1: You can use our reimbursement calculator to check if you can receive reimbursements. Just be mindful that this calculator may not provide the most detailed information and your actual reimbursements could differ from the original estimates. That’s why we recommend you proceed to option two.

Option #2: We can call your insurance company on your behalf to inquire about your out-of-network benefits.

If you are eligible for reimbursements, we will provide superbills that you can share with your insurance company for smooth processing at a cadence of your choosing (for example, weekly or monthly).

  • Fees vary depending on your therapist’s licensure, level of experience, and the type or length of session you book (for example: individual vs. couples therapy, or a 45-minute vs. 90-minute session). Each therapist also offers a range of rates and limited sliding-scale openings. You’ll have the chance to talk through fees and options during your free consultation so that we can find a plan that works for you.

  • Yes! Each therapist offers a set number of reduced-rate openings based on the “green bottle sliding scale method.” Clients with greater financial resources pay more, which helps subsidize costs for those with less access to funds. Once these reduced-rate spots are filled, we maintain a waitlist. This system runs on the honor system.

  • Yes! We frequently add new groups and open enrollment for existing groups. You can find all of our running groups on our website, most of which run for eight to 10 weeks. Because spots are limited, we ask for a commitment to the group’s entire duration. This structure helps build trust, continuity, and accountability among participants, while also ensuring your therapist can hold space consistently for everyone involved.

Sliding scale options are always available.

  • Yes, both. In-person sessions are available at our Columbus Circle, Midtown, Financial District, and Greenpoint offices in New York City.

We also offer virtual psychotherapy sessions across NY, NJ, CT, and PA, and our support groups are open to folks nationwide.

  • Yes—and often, this combination can be especially supportive! You can connect with your therapist to determine which group is best for you and explore the groups we offer here

  • Yes! Our couple’s therapy approach pulls from several modalities and frameworks including the Gottman Method and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) to create a clinical and therapeutic experience that’s tailored to what you and your partner(s) need. You can expect to feel held and challenged as we help you get to where you want and need to go.

Erin Melara, LMSW, is our lead couples therapist. You can book a free consultation with her here

  • Your first session is a chance to begin building the foundation of your therapeutic relationship. You’ll share what brings you to therapy, why now feels like the right time, and what you hope to get out of the process. Just as importantly, we’ll focus on creating safety and trust between you and your therapist because without a strong and secure relationship, no real therapeutic work can happen. Every session that follows continues to build on that sense of connection and security.

  • We get it, life happens! If you need to cancel an appointment, we ask that you please let us know at least 48-hours in advance to avoid being charged for your appointment. Monday appointments must be rescheduled by Friday to avoid a charge.

  • Yes! Just let us know you’d like your superbills and how often (for example, after each session, biweekly, or at the end of the month) and we’ll send those over to you.

  • We use a HIPPA-protected platform called SimplePractice. We provide you with login credentials and once you’re signed up, you can view and manage your appointments, make payments, and review paperwork and forms.

  • We accept payment via credit or debit card, which you’ll securely store in our HIPAA-protected platform, SimplePractice. Payment is typically processed automatically after each session unless other arrangements are made.

  • Because our team is diverse, each therapist focuses on different specialties and populations. Some of us work primarily with trauma, others with eating disorders, neurodivergence, or relationship issues. Rather than being a “one-size-fits-all” practice, we see our strength in the fact that each clinician is deeply invested and skilled in their own areas of focus.

You can read about each therapist’s expertise here.

  • Yes, but we recommend discussing your treatment plan with us to ensure your care remains cohesive and supportive.

  • When you’re working with one of us, you’re getting all of us. The therapists at EBT are always talking, collaborating, and training together to ensure our clients are receiving the care they deserve and feel supported throughout their journey. We take a very active role in our clients’ care and in the field of psychotherapy as a whole, and we do it as a team.

  • We know that many clients come to us carrying pain or mistrust from past therapy experiences. We prioritize creating a space that feels safe, collaborative, and transparent, and we check in regularly to make sure the process is working for you. Can negative experiences still happen? Of course, and where we truly shine is in how we navigate those moments. We approach relational ruptures with respect, openness, and care, using them as opportunities to model and practice relational repair rather than letting them become another wound.

  • Yes. Our practice and platform are HIPAA-protected, and your privacy is a top priority.

  • No, but we do work and collaborate closely with a small network of vetted psychiatrists we can connect you with in the event you want to explore medication options.
