Little Miss Sunshine moves through family fracture, grief, shame, ambition, disappointment, self-worth, care, and belonging with equal parts humor and tenderness. After the credits, Lauren will facilitate a relaxed conversation about the moments that stayed with us, the characters we understood or resisted, what we hoped would happen, and the deeper emotional truths beneath the story.
This is a space for people who genuinely enjoy digging into movies after watching them. You do not need a background in film or psychology, and you will never be asked to interpret the movie correctly. Curiosity, complexity, and differing perspectives are part of the experience. The evening will close with the recurring question at the center of the series: What do you think this movie understood about being human?

Participation and Community Expectations
Through a Therapeutic Lens is a community film and discussion event. Attendance does not establish a therapist-client relationship. Personal disclosure is never required. Guests may participate actively, offer an occasional thought, or listen throughout the conversation. Everyone is asked to approach the discussion with respect for differing interpretations and lived experiences. Guests are also asked to respect the privacy of anything personal that others choose to share. Because this is a community gathering rather than a confidential clinical service, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.
Seating and Accessibility
The event includes varied seating, including couches, armchairs, and ottomans. If a particular type of seating or another accommodation would support your participation, please include that information during registration or email Lauren directly at lauren@everybodytherapyny.com.
The building is elevator and ramp accessible, and the bathroom is directly across the hall with wide stalls to accompany wheelchair and other mobility aids.
Snacks
A selection of movie snacks and nonalcoholic drinks will be provided. Registration includes space to share food allergies, dietary restrictions, and favorite movie snacks. Requests will help guide the snack shopping, although specific items cannot be guaranteed. Food will be served in a shared environment, and a fully allergen-free space cannot be guaranteed.
Content Note
Little Miss Sunshine includes themes and depictions related to suicide attempt and recovery, death and grief, substance use, family conflict, sexual references, body image, eating, and emotional distress. Guests are welcome to step out of the room at any time and return when ready.
